Calvin John Schupner, known to all as Cal, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home and into the arms of our Lord on August 19, 2023 at the age of 88.

Cal was born to Harry and Catherine Schupner on May 20, 1935 in Nyack, New York. He spent the majority of his childhood years in New York state. He had one sibling, his older sister Marion.

Throughout his life, Cal’s great passion was baseball and specifically the Brooklyn Dodgers and Jackie Robinson. He frequently spoke of the day he saw Jackie Robinson in person play the first game of his second season. He spent countless hours listening to his beloved baseball on the radio and pretending to be an announcer calling the games. Cal spent his entire life following baseball, loving the game itself, the statistics involved, and playing fantasy league with his friends and family. He and his son, Glenn, shared this love of the game and enjoyed a closeness and a bond like no other.

Cal became a devoted follower of Jesus for the last 50 years. His faith grew, year after year and he was known as a mentor and advisor to countless other men. He and his wife, Madalan, hosted a small group in their home for years and epitomized the teachings of Christ in their testimony and hospitality. Cal often said that Jesus changed him into the man he became and everyone that knew him would agree that he walked the talk of a Jesus follower. He started every single day in devotion, prayed without ceasing, and gave thanks to his heavenly father for every blessing in his life. He loved his church family at 12 Stone and cherished the friends he made there over the past 22 years.

The love of Cal’s life is his wife, Madalan who remained by his side as his loving partner and best friend for over 65 years. Where you saw one, you saw the other. They were inseparable and inspired so many others through their love.

Cal is survived by his loving wife, Madalan Schupner; two children, Glenn Schupner and Carrie Brandt; three grandchildren, Kevin Brandt, Kathryn Kirks, and Garrett Schupner; and four great grandchildren, James Kirks, John Kirks, Anna Kirks, and Grady Schupner.

Cal’s life was a testament of love, devotion, hard work, and the power of prayer. His memory will be cherished forever by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 3:00pm at 12 Stone Church, Lawrenceville Campus, 1322 Buford Drive, Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. CandleImageUncle Cal was wonderful to me as a child. I have many fond memories of all us cousins hanging out with our parents in New York. He would make personal time just for me, sitting on the sofa together in their home, playing games with me. He was loving, gentle and a warm soul. Rest in Peace Uncle Cal… I’m sure mom and dad have greeted you home🙏🏻

  2. CandleImageCal was a wonderful man. Full of life, generosity and love. My first memory of him is when he started hanging with the drama team and asked me to do a piece he wrote called “The Star and The Understudy”. Then I met Madalan. And fell in love with them both as their names were so close to my parents names Carl and Madeleine.
Rest in Heavenly peace Cal. You will be missed, but we also envy you as your are with our Lord. How wonderful ❤️ is that.

  3. A great man who was unashamed to share the story of how he was saved and shaped by our Father and Savior, Jesus Christ.
His stories didn’t end there, I recently had the pleasure of sitting with him for a couple of hours, while he shared stories of growing up and working hard to provide.
Cal was an interesting man and I’m a better man because of the example he has set.
Love you and miss you, till we meet again!

  4. CandleImageCal was a wonderful Christian man. We loved playing cards with him and Madalan. We miss our pinochle buddy. We know how you loved the Lord and I know you’re praising him now.
We’ll see you someday around the throne
    Blessings and comfort to family

  5. CandleImageCal was a great friend, mentor and fabulous small group leader. We will never forget him. So glad we had a chance to know these two wonderful fellow Christians. We learned a lot spiritually from them. Will miss him dearly. Jesus has a special place for him I’m sure. We will meet again someday. God bless you both and thanks for all that you have done for Lisa and I. He is a big reason why my faith in Jesus is stronger than ever.

  6. My Cal you will be missed., enjoyed serving with you at 12 Stone, and with the “Classic Seniors” lunch fellowship, devotional meetings at Golden Corral.
You are home with Jesus, make the rest of us a little jealous.

  7. Cal was my father-in-law. He welcomed me into his family 40+ years ago and always treated me with respect and kindness. Our mutual passion for baseball often brought not only his vivid stories of events before my time, but also good-natured jawing about our favorite baseball teams.
I’m content knowing his physical pain has been lifted away and replaced by eternal peace and joy.

  8. My condolences to Madalan and the family. Cal was a sweet man, full of wisdom and character. Scott (my late husband) and I first met Cal with Madalan at 12Stone Sugarloaf at Peachtree Ridge High School in 2012. Having just been married, Cal presented Scott with some words of marital wisdom, which he carried with him till the day of his own passing in 2022. Heaven has gained a mighty Warrior.

  9. CandleImageOur deepest to Madalan and the family.
He was a great man with a love and deep faith in our lord and savior.
I always looked forward to seeing Cal & Madalan walk thru the doors at 12Stone Church.
I remember when the church had a sermon on love and marriage.
Cal & Madalan walk up next to pastor Kevin along with some other couples.
They put this beautiful song on and Cal and Madalan begin to dance.
You could just see the love they had for one another. That was something that has always stuck in my memory.
You will be missed, loved and thought of always.
Rest in peace Cal and God bless you Madalan.
    Elizabeth & Paul Parillo
