Catherine Bell Lankford, age 100, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016. She was born November 8, 1915 in Senoia, Georgia and was the last surviving child of six children born to Mary Ella Mashburn Bell and Claude Loudon Bell. Catherine is survived by her husband, George Howard Lankford of Lawrenceville; son, David Michael Lankford & wife, Janice Lee Lankford, of Lawrenceville; daughter, Catherine Elizabeth Lankford & husband, Michael William McKay of Forest Hills, NY; niece, Sandra Johnston Bruns of Cumming; great niece Diana Kimling Keegan of Atlanta; great nephew, Johnny Stevens of Atlanta, great grand nieces, Jennifer Mary Kimling and Rachael Lauren Kimling; great grand nephew, Christopher Robin Kimling, all of Marietta. Catherine graduated at the top of her high school class and moved to Atlanta where she attended Georgia Tech Night School. She married George Howard Lankford on October 8, 1949. Catherine retired from her position as Manager of the Claims Dept. for a London based insurance company in downtown Atlanta when she and her husband adopted fraternal twins in 1954. She has been a Gwinnett County resident since 1967 and embarked upon a second career in the late 1970's and early 1980's as a breeder of purebred, registered Persian and Himalayan kittens. She and her husband were charter members of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church located at 3305 Lawrenceville Hwy. Catherine and George both retired in 1980 and spent their retirement years traveling in the U.S. and camping 7 months each year at Moccasin Creek at Lake Burton, Georgia. They also spent 2 months each year in Pensacola, FL. A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, 3305 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30044. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Amazing Grace Lutheran Church.

    I was grieved to hear of Kay’s passing and I’m so sorry for your loss. She was such a wonderful friend to my mom (Bernice Eaton) for so long and such a blessing to her. I was always glad to see her if she was home when I’d visit Mom, because she was always so cheerful and fun to chat with. She was a delight.

    We’ll be praying for your comfort and peace during this time of sorrow.
