Born April 13, 1931 to the late Oliver Charles Gaskill and Mabel Tobina Olson in Fort Wayne, IN, Charles passed away October 19, 2021 in Lawrenceville, GA. Charles moved to Ephraim, WI from Fort Wayne at an early age. He graduated Gibraltar High School, Fish Creek, WI and enlisted in the U.S. Army at age seventeen. Charles was a Sergeant First Class (T) in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers serving at Schofield Barracks, O’ahu, Hawai’i and during the Korean War. Following his military service Charles spent his career with the Western Electric Company in Cicero, IL and Norcross, GA.

Charles pursued a lifelong love of all things related to fishing and the outdoors. In addition to fishing Charles enjoyed photography and camping during his working life; and in retirement woodworking and participating in speed walking senior race events. He was a member of the Fair Oaks Masonic Lodge, Oak Park, IL, and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Pass Christian, MS. Charles also volunteered with Veterans Affairs Gulf Coast Health Care.

In April 1953 Charles married Nancy Ann Weismann and they lived in Oak Park, IL and Stone Mountain, GA. Upon his retirement they moved to Pass Christian, MS and later to Diamondhead, MS. Nancy preceded Charles in death after sixty-two years of marriage. Charles is survived by son, Gary Charles Gaskill (Nancy); daughters, Amy Susan Shepherd (Rymond) and Julie Ellen Vaughn (Mark). Six grandchildren; Rymond Jr., James, Hollis, Martha, Thomas, and Matthew and five great grandchildren; Grace, Molly, John, Madison, and Evelyn.

Charles will be buried with his wife Nancy at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. A family graveside service is planned at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Ephraim Moravian Church, 9970 Moravia Street, P.O. Box 73, Ephraim, WI 54211 (ephraimmoravian.org) or Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett Employee Gift Fund, in memory of Charles Gaskill, 3100 Club Drive, Lawrenceville, Ga 30044.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers and staff of Delmar Gardens, Griswold Home Care and Agape Hospice for their excellent care of Charles.
