Christine (Chris) Coleman Gay (age 95) of Stone Mountain, Georgia passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 16. Chris was born in Washington – Wilkes, Georgia, December 31, 1922, and graduated in 1943 with a teaching degree from GNCW, now Georgia College and State University. In 1942 she married Alex H. Gay Jr., then a Captain in the Army Air Corps, and together they moved around the world following his long Air Force Career. Stops included Guam, Hawaii, Washington DC, and numerous other duty stations around the US. In 1966, Colonel Gay retired to the Tucker area, where they were both long-time active members of Embry Hills United Methodist Church. Chris was an excellent Bridge player and loved the social as well as intellectual aspects of the game. Her family credited her keen mind and outgoing spirit to her frequent play. Chris also loved and had an uncanny ability to solve crossword puzzles. Chris was predeceased by husband Alex, son Ben Allen Gay and granddaughter Leslie Ann Gay, and is survived by son Alex Gay III, his wife Ellie of Beaufort, SC; daughter Peggy Torcivia, her husband Lou of Seneca, SC; Ben’s wife Sharon Gay of Seattle, WA; as well as grandchildren Patti Hagerman, Shannon Morris, Jon Gay, Steven Torcivia, Nick Torcivia and 5 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service and Reception will be held at Embry Hills UMC on Monday, April 23 at 1:30pm in the main sanctuary. Interment will be on Tuesday, May 1 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Milledgeville, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Embry Hills UMC, 3304 Henderson Mill Road, Chamblee, GA 30341.
