Ben Brooks, also known as David Benjamin Brooks, passed away on February 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on October 31, 1959, in Clarksdale, MS, Ben’s life was a tapestry woven with warmth, kindness, and boundless joy.

A faithful member of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, Ben’s unwavering faith served as a guiding light throughout his life’s journey. He found solace and strength in his spiritual beliefs, and his presence in the church community was a source of comfort and inspiration to many.

Ben lived life to the fullest, finding joy in the simple pleasures and creating lasting memories with family and friends. He had a passion for golf, Jeeps, and cheering on his beloved Ole Miss Rebels.

Known for his competitive spirit and love for the game, Ben’s enthusiasm on the golf course was infectious, and he cherished the camaraderie shared with friends during annual golf trips. He was an avid Ole Miss fan, he enjoyed going to football games and spending time in The Grove. He loved spending weekends at the cabin with family and friends, and within the past year traveled to Hawaii, Montana, and Navarre Beach.

A dedicated professional, Ben’s commitment to excellence and his ability to connect with others left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working alongside him. His hard work and dedication were exemplified by winning the first S.P.O.T.Y (Sales Person of the Year) award for his company. After a successful career, Ben had recently retired and was ready for his next chapter in life.

Above all, Ben’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Danise Brooks, and a loving father to his daughter, Erin Mettelman (David), of Austin, TX, and son, Austin Brooks (Claire) of Atlanta, GA. Ben’s love knew no bounds, and he made his family feel protected, loved, happy, safe, and secure every single day.

Ben’s memory will forever be cherished by his sister, B.J. Gunnell, of Arkansas, his brother, Chris Brooks, of Madison, MS, and his adoring grandchildren, Hallie Rae and Brooks.

    • CandleImageBen will never be forgotten. What a wonderful Soul. He’s one of the best man that I’ve ever met. The very best Husband any woman could dream of. Rest in Peace our dear friend. 🙏

  1. So sorry to hear Ben passed. We go back to the Canton Mississippi days with Van Leer. Ben was a friend and a true Rebel.

  2. I didn’t know Ben, however I know his son Austin, it’s very clear exceptional parents produce exceptional children. Praying for strength and comfort for the family.

  3. CandleImageBen, you will truly be missed. Thank you for being such a wonderful man and husband to my dear friend. Danise my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  4. Danise:

Susan and I extend to you our prayers, comfort, and support. Our love to you in Christ, our sister.

    Eric Shewbridge

  5. CandleImageBen was a good friend and neighbor. Hooch Holler just won’t be the same without his
smiling face. I will miss sitting on the porch or by a fire with a drink and a good cigar!
His love for his Ole Miss Rebels was as strong as my love for my Dawgs.
    Our hearts are broken.

  6. Ben was a highly regarded colleague for nearly 40 years. We worked together over the past 4 decades. I have the enjoyable memories of many golf games with Ben during our early working years in Canton, MS. No doubt that his passing impacts many people.

  7. CandleImageIt was a privilege and honor to know and work with Ben Brooks. He was a gentleman in all regards. But most of all, Ben was a Christian and shared that with everyone.
Then left Legacy of Friendship and caring for others. I will miss him.

  8. Danise,
My heart is crushed for you and your family at the loss of your husband. I’m keeping you in my prayers as you navigate through this heartbreaking journey. I pray you feel the presence of God surrounding you every step of the way and are encompassed in His love.
    I love you, sweet friend.

  9. Rest in peace Big Ben and may our Lord bring peace to the Brooks family.
    Albert Saab
    (Canton Academy class of ‘77)

  10. CandleImageMy heart goes out to all and my deepest sympathy. I had the privilege to work with Ben at GREIF for many years and looked up to him as a mentor, teacher and friend. He will be missed!

  11. Danise – Janet and I are so sorry to hear about Ben. We extend our deepest sympathies to you and family.

  12. I’ve gotten to know Ben throughout the years in my Procurement Manager role. Of my supplier base of over 500, Ben was my favorite PERSON. He was just “that guy”. We spent more time talking about personal topics than anything business where he excelled as well. From his retirement planning, to working on cleaning out the family house in Florida, to the mountain trips, etc. the conversations were always real – heartfelt. My last conversation with him was at my company as he introduced his “replacement” to our team just prior to Thanksgiving. Immediately we felt that loss – selfishly.
After the meeting, we split off to have one of our usual personal conversations around his retirement, the 3 other couples near that cabin that he enjoyed time with, his future post career. It was devastating to hear this news that his dream was cut short – after all these years of planning. I was already missing this guy in our day to day, and now it’s a bit more. I wish the family all the best in the healing process. Just keep in mind how lucky you all were to have this person in your life daily. I would have loved to have had that day to day in mine. He’ll be missed.

  13. CandleImageDanise, please know my thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you, your family, and loved ones! My heartfelt prayers are and will continue to be with you in the days to come! I love you, cousin!

  14. CandleImageDanise,

So sad to get the news of Ben’s passing. We have been praying for you and your family every day asking out Lord and Savior to comfort and sustain you at this very difficult time.
Our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

  15. Danise

Mickie and I send our deepest condolences.

We both hope that you find the comfort and peace in the days to come that you seek.

    Jay & Mickie

  16. CandleImageBen and I had a business relationship, that’s how we generally started our calls. However, I can’t remember a conversation that didn’t lead to asking about each other’s family. When my two year old granddaughter was dieing, Ben consoled me as though we were life-long friends.
I admired that Ben always talked about his family and grandchildren and always asked about mine.
    Truly a man!

  17. I was so sad to hear the news of Ben’s passing. In the short time Ben and I worked together, I considered him to be an exceptional businessman. He was reliable and truly cared about his clients. We enjoyed many lunches together talking about his family, the trips he enjoyed with them and his retirement aspirations. I am sure he is missed by so many. My heart and condolences go out to his dear family. You were one of a kind, sir and your legacy will continue on.

  18. CandleImageDanise,
I am so sorry for your loss. My heart is breaking for you. I am praying for you and your family to have strength and comfort.
    Janet

  20. CandleImageDanise, I am so sorry to hear about Ben. My heart goes out to you, Chris, BJ, and all the family and friends of Ben. What a wonderful family man he was. Our Aunt Marilyn, and grandmother Billie, were always so happy to see Ben coming for a visit, which he did so many times making the drive to Pontotoc and Tupelo Mississippi. I am so thankful that Ben had a wonderful life with a wonderful wife, wonderful children and grandchildren, and the many wonderful family and friends that he did. Ben, my cousin, will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you. With all my love, Suzy

  21. CandleImageDear Danise and family,

Ben Brooks is my nephew. He is now with his dad Jerry Brooks. Ben knew our Heavenly Father Jesus our Savior. Ben knew and walked the word of God. Ben was so good and wonderful and loved everybody, and especially his precious wife Danise, family and friends. We will miss Ben dearly.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Denise, family and friends during this difficult time.

Aunt Betty Sue and Dan Thompson
