Born in:
Cincinnati, Ohio
Resided in:
Lawrenceville, Georgia
David Marvin Vaughn, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, left for Heaven, Sunday, September 25, 2022. Within his lifetime he earned the respectable titles of Son, Brother, Uncle, Devoted Husband, Dad, Pappaw, Pastor, Coach, Loyal Friend and Mentor. He was regarded as a Church Man; across 62 years, he only missed Sunday church when he was in the hospital.
One of his many strengths was loving his family with arms outstretched, giving his time and energy to share personal experiences and leaving his family with wonderful memories. He was hands-on, quick witted and always ready with a tight hug. He was the family’s Mr. Fix-it, repairing the broken – whether toys or hearts.
He is known as Pastor Vaughn to congregations in Ohio, Kentucky, California, Florida, Georgia and Virginia. He was a devoted and caring pastor, gifted in leading churches to a faith-reviving spirit, regaining the greatness God planned for them. He was a dynamic preacher that held the Word of God as Absolute Truth. He was strong yet gentle, deeply caring about the individuals under his care, and worked to rescue the hurting. His messages were filled with Scripture, exuding love for God and the listeners, giving them a firm foundation in the Word. As a result, many lives were changed for Christ.
As a coach to pastors, he was a friend, mentor, encourager and prayer partner. He leaned in during difficult times, offering companionship, sage wisdom and love. He advised pastors to keep their personal relationships with God and their families above the needs of the church, always reminding them of the goodness of God, that He would use them, and to be sure to “pull in the nets.”
He was preceded in death by his son, David Marvin Vaughn, Jr., his father, Rev. Merrill R. Vaughn, mother, Dora Mae Mayne Vaughn, sister, Geneva Vaughn Cole, and brothers, Raymond James Vaughn, Roland Lewis Vaughn, and Charles Ray Vaughn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Ellen Rascov Vaughn, daughter Dodie Vaughn Price, daughter Davina Mae Pennington and her husband Bill Pennington, four grandchildren: Dr. Andrew Price (Tamara), Blake Pennington (Kristen), Olivia Pennington, Craig Pennington (Tyler), and six great-grandchildren: Desdemona Price, Guinevere Price, Opal Pennington, Ari Pennington, Asa Pennington and Aiden Pennington.
He was easy to love and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He met his ultimate goal of finishing well.
