January 12, 1928 ~ March 25, 2023

Born in: Atlanta, Georgia
Resided in: Lithonia , Georgia

Deacon James Fluker, Jr was born on January 12, 1928, in Atlanta, GA, to the late James Fluker Sr, and Flora Lee Lighting, He was the second of eight children, four brothers, and three sisters. He received his education from the Atlanta Public School System, where he completed the 11th grade. Deacon Fluker later self-educated himself and became an owner of a lucrative business. After the untimely death of his business partner, he went to work for the Atlanta Board of Education, where he retired after eight and a half years. Deacon Fluker married the late Mary Frances Austin. They were the proud parents of six children: Francenia, Marilyn, Danny, Ancilla “Princess,” Kenth, and James, III.

Deacon Fluker joined the St. Stephens Overcoming Church of God where he received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He later became a member of the New Supreme Church of God in Christ with his wife and family. Being led by God, Deacon Fluker joined St. Katherine Church of God in Christ and faithfully served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board until his illness. While serving as Chairman, he was always the first to arrive at church. He would lead bible study and assist during altar calls. Deacon Fluker loved his church family.

Deacon Fluker was a man of prayer. He would call family and friends to pray with them and to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At the end of each call, he would recite the 23rd Psalm, The Lord is my Shepherd.” He would ask God to bless and keep them. For him, prayer was not just something he did but a way of life. Deacon Fluker had a heart of a servant. During Christmas, he would go to the Atlanta Farmers Market and buy nuts, fruits, and candy to prepare Christmas bags for his grandchildren, church members, and others throughout his community. He would visit the sick and shut-in, providing aid and comfort to them. His favorite sayings were, “It don’t cost nothing to be nice and kind!” “God ain’t good sometimes, God is good all the time!” The words and wisdom he shared were priceless. Deacon Fluker was the epitome of unwavering faith, love, and compassion.

On March 25, 2023, Deacon Fluker was promoted to glory and entered eternal rest. He now awaits the fulfillment of God’s promise: The righteous will receive eternal life and live forever.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife Mary Frances Fluker; his son Larry Fluker; his granddaughter Tasharina Fluker; four great-grandchildren; his father James Fluker Sr; his mother Flora Lee Fluker; four brothers, and one sister. Deacon Fluker leaves to continue his legacy twelve children; five sons, Edward Totten, Danny Fluker (JaiDei), Kenth Fluker, James Fluker III (Shante), and Monty Waller Jr; seven daughters, Francenia Ponder (Marcus, Sr), Janice Fluker-Green, Marilyn Fluker, Ancilla “Princess” Reynolds (Donald Jr), Miche Fluker, Monet Fluker-Yocum (Ron), and Mary Frances Waller; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
