Derak Stanley Bevis passed away on March 28, 2015 at Eastside Medical Center in Snelleville, GA. He was born on December 31, 1964 to Clinton and Ruth Bevis. Derak grew up in Dothan, AL. After high school he attended Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, AL where he received a BA in Early Elementary Education. He worked for Emory Healthcare in the Radiology IT department for 3 years. Derak married Leslie in 1999 in Manchester, CT They were happily married for 15 years. Derak is survived by his spouse Leslie of Lilburn, GA, His son Brandon, and daughters Samantha and Rebecca of Lilburn, GA: His mother Ruth Bevis of Tuscaloosa AL, His sister Pam Sellers (Wayne) of Guntersville, AL, His brothers Philip Bevis of Dothan, AL, Spencer Bevis of Dothan, AL and Clinton Bevis (Ruth) of Stokesdale, NC and his many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Derak was preceded in death by his father Clinton Bevis A memorial service will be held at Mountain Park United Methodist Church 1405 Rockbridge Rd SW Stone Mountain, GA at 2pm on April 2nd with visitation at 1pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Mountain Park United Methodist church youth choir or a charity of your choice.

  7. I remember Derak from grammar school, middle school and high school. He was a thoughtful and kind soul. I am not surprised that he had a loving family, and I pray for God’s comfort for you in the face of such a tremendous loss. He was a rare and humble person and I am sure much welcomed into God’s presence.

  10. Derak was a classmate of mine since we were in first grade all the way thru graduation at Northview High School. He was a great guy and I’m saddened to hear of his untimely passing. I know that God has a plan for all of us and I take comfort that Derak is in heaven among family & friends.   12. He will be truly missed. He always stopped by data migration every morning to wish us well. Just last week he had a pot luck with us. Come Friday, he wished us a good weekend with the last words of “see you ladies Monday” and we all wished him the same.

  13. I came to know Derak shortly after I begin at working at Emory back in November of 2014.Derak was always in great spirit,full of joy and of laughter. While I didn’t know Derak long. I can attest that he loved God and his family whole heartedly. Derak expressed this daily. Derak will be dearly missed.My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

  28. I attended First United Methodist Church in Dothan with Derak where we were in the Second Century Ringers handbell choir together. I have a lot of memories of many handbell trips in the summer with him. Sending my deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time.

    As Derak’s high school counselor and Ruth’s cc-worker at Northview High School, I had a very close bond to all of your family. I remember Derak’s beautiful voice and friendly, outgoing personality. I especially remember the beautiful eulogy he delivered at his dad’s memorial service. You all will be in our prayers.

  31. I grew up with Derak and attended First United Methodist Church where we were members of the Second Century Bell Choir. Wonderful memories of all the rehearsals, concerts and trips to handbell conventions all over the country. Derak was genuine with a heart of gold. Praying for the family at this difficult time.
