It is with profound sadness, we announce the death of Mr. Douglas Sok Ly, who peacefully departed this world on May 21, 2024, at the age of 81. His legacy remains engraved in the hearts of all who were touched by his presence, love, and unwavering dedication. Born in Kampuchea Krom, he was the son of the late Mr. DiêL Lý and Mrs.Thị Kiên Hàng. Mr. Douglas Ly lost his mother at the tender age of seven months and was left in the care of his great aunt Mrs Hàng Kes. At the early age of 21 years old he left his homeland and ventured to the Capital of Cambodia. His journey of resilience and determination, surviving the Khmer Rouge and numerous near-death encounters including gunshot wounds to the chest which pierced one side of his body and exiting another. Fleeing his homeland amid tumultuous times. He sought refuge in Thailand in 1978, eventually landing in America in 1980. Despite the adversities and hardship, he faced in America, he never wavered in his pursuit of a better life for his family. He lived in the Bronx, New York from 1980 to 1993. Relocating to Cranston, Rhode Island from 1993 to 2020, and to his final resting place in Suwanee, Georgia from 2020 to 2024. He was a wealth of knowledge and enlightenment, he had a great love for history and sports, which he eagerly shared. His thirst for knowledge extended from current events of America to history of his beloved country of Cambodia. He remained deeply connected, despite the geographical distance, with his family and friends. He instilled the importance of education and hard work. He served as a guiding light for his own children and grandchildren, instilling in them the values of integrity, perseverance, and compassion. He was a devoted family man, a cherished husband to his beloved wife, and a loving father to his sons and daughters. His home was a sanctuary of warmth and love, where laughter echoed and memories were woven amidst the fragrance of Gardinia, Roses, and Hydrangeas nurtured by his green thumb. During his childhood, he studied at the pagoda. This experience and upbringing would later help root his faith and spiritual guidance. He was a Buddhist who played a role in the community. Instilling culture and respect in others to his family, friends, and neighbors. But perhaps his most gift lies in the infinite devotion and kindness he bestowed upon those who crossed his path. His art of storytelling, infectious laughter, gentle humor, charismatic presence, and genuine compassion touched many hearts, leaving a permanent mark on our souls. His legacy of love and care will continue to inspire and uplift us all. Though he may have bid farewell to this earthly realm, his spirit will forever dwell among us, a guiding light illuminating our paths and a reminder of the profound impact one soul can have on the world. He wove together the threads of past, present, and future, leaving behind a tapestry of memories that will forever linger in the hearts of those he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kind-heartedness: cherished by his devoted wife, Suon May; son Long Sok and daughter in law Sokunthy Son; daughters Susan Ly and Lucy Ly; son Johnny Ly and daughter in law Rozaline Ly; and ten adored grandchildren, Botha Sok, Kevin Sok, Jordan Makara Ly, Christina Sok, Liza Sok, Juliet Maya Ly, Brendan Sok, Savannah Vicheka Ly, Jayce Royce Ly and Jazzlynn Rose Ly. He also leaves behind his older sister Mrs. Thi Soun Ly, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a community forever in remembrance of his storytelling, boundless generosity, and unwavering compassion. May his soul find eternal peace in the embrace of the heavens, and may his memory continue to inspire us to live with open hearts and compassionate souls. Rest in peace, dear Mr. Douglas Ly, your legacy will forever bloom in the gardens of our hearts. Buddhist Religious Service will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024, from 10am to 1pm, at Wat Dhamma, 1138 Stagecoach Rd, Stockbridge, GA 30281. The Funeral and Wake on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 10am to 2pm at Wages & Sons Funeral Home & Crematories, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. As consistent with our Cambodian culture, all Sunshine gifts can be addressed to The Ly Family, 835 Sentry Ridge Xing, Suwanee, GA 30024.
