I just learned of Edna’s passing and am greatly saddened. She was my second cousin — a Neiman relative. I hadn’t seen her in years, and we’d lost touch with each other. However, I have many pleasant memories of being with her in Georgia and in New Jersey. May she rest in peace.
Edna and Fred were my neighbors. I lived two houses up the street from them and would have tea and lunch with them after school. They were the kindest people I had ever met and taught me so much about their religion, their journey to the states and their family history. They were so kind to my family. I remember when my mom gave birth to my sister, Edna prepared a delicious meal for when she returned from the hospital. When Fred passed, I spent a lot of time at their home looking at photos of their family. When I think of my childhood, I think of Fred and Edna the most. They were the first to greet me before I got on the bus and looked out for all of the children in the neighborhood. They taught me about community, acceptance and kindness in so many ways. I still have their cards signed “Fredna”. I miss you both so much and I hope you both know how much of an impact you both had on my upbringing.
