Born on February 28, 1940 in Atlanta to Buck and Mildred (Swindle) Filson, Edna was the oldest of three children. She graduated from Hoke Smith High School in 1959 and married shortly thereafter. Edna worked for many years and retired in 2005 from Armstrong Lock & Key.

Edna lived in Conyers for many years. Edna loved and was actively involved at The Orchard Church in Loganville where she attended a ladies bible study and served as a coffee team hostess on Sunday mornings. Until she fell ill, Edna frequented a Silver Sneakers class. Edna was a gentle soul who enjoyed a good laugh and visiting over meals with those she loved. She loved her dogs, her home, a good cup of coffee, and watching classic tv reruns.

Edna is survived by three sons and seven grandchildren. Her sons are Steve Cumbie – Conyers, Don Cumbie – Snellville, and Tracy & Kim Cumbie – Stone Mountain. Her grandchildren are Nicole & Travis Williams – Cumming, Elizabeth White- Conyers, Jason & Catie White – Loganville, Kevin & Brooke Cumbie – Covington, Michelle Cumbie &Tyler Taylor – Lilburn, and Sam Cumbie and Eli Cumbie – both Stone Mountain. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents and both siblings, James Filson and Shirley Brooks. Edna passed away after a lengthy illness on February 19, 2022.

Edna’s Pastor, Wendy Jones, will officiate a Celebration of Life service on Sunday, March 6, 2022; with her family receiving friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm and a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Wages and Sons, Stone Mountain Chapel. A private burial will occur at a later time.

  1. As First Cousins we never lived close to each other but we visited as much as we could over the years. You in Ga and me in Tn was difficult to make the trip unless we could hitch a ride with someone. Over the years we kind of lost touch and each went our separate ways. Your mom sent me a photo of you your brother and sister and I have them on my book case and look at them often. You will be missed. God Bless!
