Ella Mae Johnson

Ella Mae “Mama Johnson” Johnson was born on November 11, 1927 in Fairhope, Al, and spent the majority of her life in Chicago, IL moved to Decatur, GA in 2008 and Lilburn, GA in 2014.

Ella Mae (Lloyd) Johnson age 91, passed peacefully from this life to eternal the morning of May 29, 2019 after a gradual decline in health.  She was supported by her daughter Jackie, family and caregivers at this time.

She had a love for cooking and caring for family, friends and strangers alike.  She had love in her heart and everyone loved her.  Nature and wildlife always brought a smile to her face and children were the joy of her heart. You could always count on receiving a birthday card or a handwritten letter from Ella Mae. In her final months you could find her doing Arts & Crafts with her new friends at Royal Adult Day Care.  She looked forward to spending her days at Royal and she would keep them abreast on the current news because her mind was very sharp.  Ella Mae’s favorite pastime was traveling by bus, train, ship, car, ship or an occasional plane.  When it was time to go she would get her suitcase and always pack a large lunch to share with all.  Ella Mae had plenty of stories to tell and advice to give.  Always the perfect hostess putting the comfort of others first; even a gift to give.

Ella Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Eugene M. Johnson, daughter Lovie A. Johnson, Grandson Douglas C. Johnson, sister  Autherine “Aunt Dant” Lloyd and brother Clarence “Buddy” S. Lloyd.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children; Clifton D. Williams Sr., Terrance E. Johnson Sr., Ronald L. Johnson and Jackqueline Johnson, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters Julia M. Overbea of Fairhope, AL and Peggy Laurence of Lucedale, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
