Ellen Angel Hitz
January 19, 1948 ~ September 10, 2023
Born in:
Winston Salem, North Carolina
Resided in:
Lawrenceville, Georgia
Ellen Angel Hitz passed away on Sunday, September 10th, after an unexpected series of complications following surgery last month.
The world was blessed with Ellen on January 19, 1948, in Winston-Salem, NC. The lucky parents were Douglas Ernest and Kathleen Johnson Angel. After her childhood and graduation from Reynolds High School, Ellen attended East Carolina University as a music major, then later graduated from Gwinnett Hall Baptist College.
Ellen was a long-time member of First Moravian Church of Georgia, where she was choir director for many years. She also spent several years working at Gwinnett Animal Clinic, surrounded by her favorite furry friends.
As the name implies, Ellen was an angel on earth. She didn’t accrue a series of awards or accolades the way some people do because she was too busy supporting everyone around her. Ellen was truly the wind beneath many wings. She was kind, loving, selfless, and accepting of anyone she ever met. She loved animals, even the creepy crawly ones. Ellen was a best mom, and her children know how lucky they were.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and sister. Among the many broken hearts left behind are loving husband, William (Bill) Hitz; son and daughter-in-law, David and Holly Jones, and granddaughter, Victoria; daughter and partner, Rebecca (Becky) Jones and Alex Kambar; and a feisty chihuahua named Boaz.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Wellstar North Fulton for their endless efforts to send Ellen home, and AccentCare Hospice of Cumming for their love and kindness. Additionally, the family wishes to thank Ron Jones for his unwavering support.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 16th from 3pm-5pm at Wages and Sons on Lawrenceville Highway, followed by a graveside service on Sunday, September 17th at 3pm at Gwinnett Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Moravian Church of Georgia, or a favorite animal charity.
