Ellen Quarterman Davis 1928-2016 Ellen Davis of Atlanta quietly passed away surrounded by family on September 11, 2016. Ellen was born January 14, 1928, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her family moved to Atlanta while Ellen was still a young girl, and she grew up in Ansley and Brookwood Hills where she met most of her lifelong friends. Ellen went to Washington Seminary Girls School before going to college at Wesleyan. She then transferred to the University of Georgia where she studied journalism and was a member of Chi Omega sorority, and during which time she made her debut, serving as secretary. Ellen was the devoted wife of Dr. Marvin Davis for 53 beautiful years. She was a great mother and grandmother who loved, and was very much loved, by her family. Ellen's favorite times were any family gatherings, and especially the annual family trips to Pawley's Island with the entire family, and her children’s and grandchildren’s friends, in tow. Ellen loved animals, especially her many Golden Retrievers. Other interests were reading, politics, watching UGA football, ALTA tennis, aerobic classes, Mahjong, and creative writing. Ellen also enjoyed volunteering in numerous ways at her long time church, Trinity Presbyterian. She enjoyed working with Meals on Wheels for many years and was also an advocate for literacy, assisting for years in after school reading programs. Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Marvin. She is survived by her three children, Mary Ellen Kanze, Dr. Lee Davis (Anne Marie), Russell Davis (Jennifer); brother Dr. Keith Quarterman (Kay); grandchildren Kathryn Kanze, Robert Kanze, Lee Davis Jr., Elizabeth (Kyle) Dennis, Patrick Davis, Whitney Davis, and Margaret Davis; and nephews Keith Quarterman, Alan Quarterman, John Quarterman, and Neil Quarterman. There will be a private interment service for the family at the Memory Garden at Trinity Presbyterian Church followed by a memorial service also at Trinity for friends and family on Monday, September 19, 2016, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Ellen be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church or The Atlanta Humane Society.
