Elsie Platner Post, age 91 of Gainesville, Georgia, formerly of Suwanee, Georgia died at New Horizons at
Lanier Park, Gainesville, Monday, December 16, 2024.

She was born on March 20, 1933, in Rochester, Minnesota to the late William Dwight and Maedelle
Jones Platner. She always looked up to her older sister, Maedelle (Mazie) Platner Falloon with love and
admiration, always striving to be just like her. She was an avid reader and a self-proclaimed tomboy as a
young girl. During her early years, her family made their home in Council Bluffs, Iowa until she and her
mother moved to Navasota, Texas upon the death of her father. It was there that Elsie would complete
her schooling at Navasota High School alongside Jerry, the classmate who would eventually be her
husband of nearly 70 years. They would share responsibilities for the high school yearbook as the
business manager (Jerry) and editor in chief (Elsie).

Elsie attended the University of Nebraska where she was active in Pi Beta Phi fraternity for women
before earning her undergraduate degree at what is now Sam Houston State University. She married
the love of her life on June 11, 1955 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Navasota. She would later earn her
master’s degree in education at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Early in their marriage, she and Jerry moved to Atlanta, Georgia. It is in Atlanta that Elsie reared her
family, volunteered in the community serving as a girl scout leader, den mother for her sons’ boy scout
troops, and chauffeuring her children to their many activities while fulfilling all the demands of a wife
and mother. She enjoyed an incredible and fulfilling career as an educator in elementary school and
teaching young children in Sunday school. Her crowning achievement was being named Teacher of the
Year at Konaheda Elementary School in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Nothing gave her greater pleasure
from those years than when a former student took the time to visit and catch up with her, no matter
where she was.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry V. Post, Jr. and children, William “Butch” Post (Carol) of Lavonia,
GA; Antoinette “Toni” Hamilton (Whit) of Gainesville, GA; Tom Post (Danneice) of Fayetteville, GA. She is
also survived by her grandchildren, Blair Stone (Ryan), Allison Post, Maggie Hamilton, Kathleen Naylor
(Clay), Michael Post, Adelaide Wesolowski (Tyler), and Thomas Post. She also leaves behind 7 great
grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 3, 2025, at St. Barnabas Anglican Church,
4795 North Peachtree Rd, Dunwoody, Georgia, 30338. Interment will be in the church columbarium. A
reception will be held at the church immediately following the service.
