Elton Valverde Cust
April 14, 1940 ~ July 19, 2022
Our family’s patriarch, Elton Valverde Cust, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 82 on July 19, 2022. Elton, lovingly referred to as Eltos, Tos, Allan, Toro, Cust, Dad, Gramps and Pop-Pop was a loving and giving man who was the glue that held our entire family together. He was a God fearing and loving man who made such a profound impact on all who knew him. His wife, children and grandchildren were the center of his world and all he ever wanted in life was for his family to faithfully serve the Lord, live peacefully and remain close regardless of distance.
Elton was born to the late Marvin and Muriel Cust in Woodbrook, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago on April 14, 1940. He was blessed with a large family to include five siblings, Garveston, Edris, Germaine, Ertwyn and Gwenwyn.
Their home was full of love and laughter. Aside from their immediate family, the Cust clan welcomed countless friends in their home with open arms who quickly became family.
Elton and his family attended the Cathedral where he sang in the choir with his siblings. He attended Tranquility Boys Intermediate School and played football otherwise known as soccer in the United States for Rebels Sports Club and Ball Dribblers.
He met the love of his life, Pamela Fenton when he was 22 years old and she was 17 years old. They married on January 6, 1968 and migrated to United States in 1969. They settled in New York to raise three beautiful children, Allan, Arlene and Alicia with patience, discipline and humility.
Elton was a teacher at Emmanuel High School in Trinidad and Tobago for many years and a college professor at Florida International University in South Florida. He was a soft-spoken person with a selfless nature who loved every member of his family unconditionally. He always listened without judgement and provided guidance to all who needed him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Muriel; his sisters, Edris and Germaine and his brother, Gwenwyn.
Elton is survived by his wife, Pamela; his son, Allan Cust (Michelle); and daughters, Arlene Bran (Rene) and Alicia Barr (Martin). He was the proud grandfather to seven beautiful grandchildren, Ariana Williams, Aaron Cust, Alyssa Bran, Aliyah Bran, Christopher Bran, Zahrah Barr and Zachary Barr.
