Emory Ellis Johnson
December 17, 1930 ~ December 24, 2024
Born in:
Sparta, Georgia
Resided in:
Johns Creek, Georgia
Emory Johnson, from Johns Creek Georgia, passed away December 24, 2024, at the age of 94. He survived The Great Depression and life in America during World War II, separated from his parents during much of that period following the death of his mother in 1939. As a twenty one year United States Army Veteran, he served as a highly decorated medic on the battlefields of Korea and in helicopters over Vietnam, helping to save American lives. Emory was a proud American patriot devoted to his country. He worked in healthcare much of his life as an Army Medic, and as Administrative Support for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia during the 1970s, and later at Peachtree Parkwood Hospital. He retired from the Concourse Athletic Club in 2002.
He is survived by his three sons, Michael, Christopher and Ricky Johnson, and grandchildren. He was a devoted grandfather to Christina and Stephen Johnson, whom he loved very much. All his children and grandchildren still live in the Atlanta area. Emory was a loving husband to Herma (Christmann) Johnson, from Schifferstadt, Germany, for 66 years. They were married in Speyer, Germany on August 13, 1955, and raised their family in Germany, Stone Mountain, Georgia, and on Army bases scattered across the U.S and Germany.
Born into a family of eight in Hancock County, Georgia in 1930, they were always very close. But not always in distance. His sisters, Irene and Elizabeth Johnson, three brothers, Marion, Glenn and Gene, as well as their spouses, Jack Binion, Wallace Fuller, Lou Johnson, Gale Johnson, and LaVon Johnson were a close family. With the exception of Gale and LaVon, they have not survived Emory but are not forgotten. Tales of them, when together, are still told to this day.
Herma passed on September 11, 2021, and Emory was very close to her during her final years as their love only grew.
Emory will be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother, a Friend to many, and a proud Patriot.
