RICHARD BOONE FELNER July 27, 1930 – Nov. 4, 2011 Richard Felner was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Solomon Felner and Nellie Lawwill Felner. Later when his father became a CCC camp commander at various locations, his mother took him and his brother to Pleasureville, Kentucky to be near her sister . The family lived there until his older brother Charles entered Millersburg Military Academy. Richard was in the Academy's Middle School and remained to graduate in 1947. He attended Transylvania College in Lexington then graduated from the University of Kentucky School of Business 1951. At UK he joined the KA fraternity and was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honor society. Richard joined the U.S. Air Force after college graduation. He was assigned to Keesler Air Force in Biloxi, Mississippi. An avid amateur singer, he met his wife while performing at Gulf Park College. The supervisor of Beth Hardy's dorm introduced them in 1955. After Beth attended the University of Texas for a year, Richard and Beth married in Kerrville, Texas in 1956. After Beth finished U.T. in 1957, the couple moved to Cincinnati, where Richard began his career in computer programming with Proctor and Gamble. After various moves to Chicago, Milwaukee, Phoenix and finally St. Paul, MN, in 1971 Richard took a job with Honeywell Information Systems in Atlanta, GA. They remained in the Atlanta area until his death. Following a brief career with the Office of Thrift Supervision, Richard retired and followed another of his avocations: he became involved with Decatur Travel, where he remained until 2007. He enjoyed making travel arrangements for his clients and himself as well. Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years and by his daughter, Ellen Buoyer Duncanof Richmond, VA, and their three children: Elizabeth, Mary Frances, and John. Also surviving is his son Steve Felner of Seattle, WA and his four daughters: Grace, Faith, Hope and Joy. His brother Charles Felner also survives him, as do his children, Patrice Phelps, Jim Felner, and Paul Felner. Richard will be remembered for being the complete gentleman. In addition, while pursuing a career, he continued to sing with various organizations, including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and well as the church choir wherever he lived. For the past 6 years, Richard and Beth have enjoyed living at Park Springs, a senior development just outside Stone Mountain Park. Richard and Beth appreciated the moral support from other residents during this final stage of Richard's life.
