GW Banfield – Age 91, of Suwanee, GA, formerly of East Point, GA went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 5, 2024. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. GW attended Augusta High School and left school early to help support his family. He served in both the U.S. Army (2 years) and the U.S. Army Reserves (12 years). He was a member of Creekside Church in Cumming, GA.

GW was preceded in death by his father John Banfield, mother Stella Banfield, brothers Billy Banfield, Ralph Banfield, Donald Banfield, sister Sue Banfield Marsh and grandson Cody Alan Banfield.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years Norma Carl Banfield of Suwanee, GA (formerly of East Point, GA), brother Melvin (Sharon) Banfield, Huber Heights, OH. Also, daughter Deborah Banfield, Johns Creek, GA. daughter Vickie Banfield Wages (Jay), Johns Creek, GA. son Gary Banfield (Debbie Maupin), Kennesaw, GA. grandson Byron Wages (Kristina), Oakland, CA. granddaughter Kennedy Wages, Charleston, SC. granddaughter Kristen Bradford, Molena, GA, great grandchildren Knox and Arabella.

GW was a true servant of God. He was a very active member of East Point First Mallalieu United Methodist Church for 40 years. He was a Lifetime Member of Methodist Men and an active member of Civitan’s for many years. GW also was a very active participant in operating the church’s Food Pantry.

GW was also loved by many as he coached many years of the men’s church league basketball program as well as many years of coaching little league baseball. And he dearly loved his Kentucky Wildcats!

GW was a devoted husband, father and friend. He will be missed and never forgotten. He was one in a million.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place on Sunday,October 13, 2024 at 2pm at Creekside Church, 673 Peachtree Parkway, Cumming, GA. The family will greet visitors after the celebration.

His legacy of ,supporting the church ministries As Sunday School Leader at EPFM UMC and serving those wonderful sausage and biscuits prior to Sunday school will always be a great memory to me.
