Gwendolyn “Gwen” Faye Day, age 76 of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born May 13, 1943 in Moultrie, Georgia to the late David Wright Sloan and Emma Ruth Lewis and one of 6 siblings who shared a special bond.

Gwen is survived by her high school sweetheart of 58 years, Selby Day; daughters: Belinda and husband David Watkins and Rhonda Johnson; 3 grandchildren: Kristen Brown, Chad Johnson, and Jason Watkins; and 3 great grandchildren: Emily Johnson, Ryan Brown, and Noah Johnson and dog Benji. She leaves behind 4 sisters, Doris Hunter, Jeanette Luke, Bobbie Carter, and Patricia Wyatt and late brother Grady Sloan along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Gwen worked for SAFECO Insurance in the commercial rating department for over 25 years and retired in 2000. She enjoyed her retirement spending time at her North Georgia cabin in the mountains and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She loved to travel and visited all 50 states. She touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 4 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Wages & Sons Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Sunday, January 5 at 2:00 pm at Gwinnett Memorial Park in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The family would like to thank Agape Hospice for their care during her final weeks.

Gwen’s motto was every day is a good day..it is what you make of it. “Chin Up”

  1. To know Gwen was an honor. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. Always positive and caring. She always put others first before herself. If you knew her you loved her. I’m glad I had the privilege to deliver her mail for 19 years. She made me feel special. When she was the “ Special “ one. I will miss her .
