Resided in: Atlanta, Georgia

Hansa Ben R. Patel, a devoted Vaishnav, trusted sister, determined mother, beloved grandmother and joyful great grandmother, passed away at the astounding age of 95 on February 3, 2023.

Hansa Ben was born on April 17, 1927. She was one of seven siblings, married to the late Ramesh Chandra Patel, and settled in Mumbai, Maharashtra. They raised three their incredible children – daughters Maya S. Patel, Anjana S. Patel and her late son, Rajendra R. Patel.

In October 1985, she alongside her husband, made the journey to the United States to join their children and their families and began a new life at the age of 58. It was in this phase of her life that she became affectionately acknowledged as Hansu Ba, or simply, Ba. She was not only Ba to her seven grandchildren, but to everyone around her.

In the last two decades, Ba’s family grew as her grandchildren married, she welcomed five grandsons-in-law and a granddaughter-in-law. Between 2010 and 2022, Ba was promoted to her most coveted titles yet. She became Badi Ba, Big B, and Ba-Ji to eight incredible great grandchildren. Ba considered her great-grandchildren to be reflections and artifacts of her unwavering faith in Shri Nath Ji. She firmly believed it was because of her faith she had the privilege to meet and spend time with the children that would carry on her legacy.

Ba was first and foremost, a devoted Vaishnav. She was the pillar of strength and guidance for the Shri Nath Ji community. She, alongside her family spent countless hours throughout her lifetime volunteering at V.P.S.S. (Shri Vallabh Priti Seva Samaj), in Houston, TX. Mandir was her family’s “home away from home” for the better part of their lives.

Ba was well known for her love of sewing and crafting. Ba became a master artisan when she sat down in front of her sewing machine. Her love was expressed not through words, but through her talent and passion for sewing.

Many things brought joy to Ba, but there was no such joy as there was when she sat down with a bowl of two large scoops of ice cream! No matter the time of day, no matter how busy times were, there was always time for ice cream!

To say that Ba lived a full life would be an understatement; rather life fulfilled Ba. Her legacy is her strength and will power, which will continue to live through her family for generations to come!

Hansa Ben is survived by her younger siblings, Harshila Patel and Atul Amin, two sisters-in-law, Vatsala and Lopa; daughters, Maya and Anjana, son-in-law, Shashikant Patel, daughter-in-law, Harsha Patel, grandchildren and the spouses: Toshal, James, Jayana, Suketu, Nehali, Nimish, Miraj, Devanshi, Tamanna, Natasha, Sushant, Niralie and Jamaal. Her legacy will be carried on through Aanya, Felicity, Aria, Niam, Ava, Naira, Dylan and Shayaan.

Funeral and cremation services for Hansa Ben will be held from 2pm to 4pm EST on Saturday, February 11, 2023 in Atlanta, GA.
