Born in: Long An Province, Vietnam
Resided in: Orlando, Florida

Hong Thi Nguyen, of Orlando, Florida passed away peacefully on Aug 26,2022, surrounded by her family. Hong was a thoughtful, kind, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Throughout her life, she loved unconditionally, gave generously, and met every challenge with grace. She was an amazing cook and avid gardener.

Born in Long An Province, Vietnam, Hong was the youngest of nine children. She loved growing up with her large family and helping on the farm. She was a self-described tomboy, often telling stories of catching fish and shrimp in the river or climbing trees to pick fruit. Prior to immigrating to the US by boat, Hong was a school teacher.

Along with her husband, she courageously navigated a new life in the Orlando, driven by her grit and love for her daughters and family in Vietnam. Before becoming a manicurist for 25 years, she was a cook at Universal Studios, where she would bravely battle traffic with her scooter before owning a car. In her spare time, she spent hours perfecting Vietnamese dishes to share with her friends at their lively dinner parties, which often ended with at least two or three rounds of karaoke.

Hong was happiest when with her grandchild or in her garden. She spent years cultivating her Vietnamese garden, growing flowers, vegetables, and fruits from Vietnam. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Eric Tran, her daughters Cuc Tran (Ian Kracalik) and Stephanie Tran, and her grandson Logan Kracalik.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donating in her memory to Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC) or the Shepherd Center. FODAC provides equipment and services for adults and children with disabilities to improve their overall quality of life. Donations to the Shepherd Center help fund unreimbursed patient care programs and purchase patient care and rehabilitation equipment.
