Huie was born on February 26, 1933 the only child of Huie & Ethel (Roan) Woods, Sr. at the Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. He graduated from Bass High School where he was in the JROTC. He attended Georgia State University before becoming an active duty soldier in the US Army in 1957and then the reserves until 1963. For many years, Huie was a member of the Embry United Methodist Church in Tucker, Ga along with his first wife Beverly and their three children: daughters, Debbie (Woods) Campbell, Donna (Woods) McGough, & son Steve Woods.

Huie worked for 23 years with the Chic-Fil-A corporate headquarters in Ga as the Director of Human Resources and loved this company.

After meeting his wife Tricia in 1996, they were married in 2001 and began attending The Salvation Army of Lawrenceville, Ga where they became soldiers (members) of the corps (church) in 2005.

He was a big supporter of The Salvation Army in Ga. He loved to tinker in the basement making things. He also enjoyed Birdwatching and making birdhouses. He liked to travel whenever he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of more than 23 years, Tricia, and his 3 children; Debbie, Donna, & Steve.
