Born in: Long Beach, New York
Resided in: Lawrenceville, Georgia

“Jay would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received a call…a sort of offer you can’t refuse…for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with his father Lenny, his Aunt Ellen, and his grandparents: Papa Bennie & Grandma Rosie, among other family and friends that he has not seen in a long time. Job security is 110 percent guaranteed.

His new mission takes him to a wonderful place where he will be socializing, surfing, fishing, skateboarding, digging for clams, as well as sleeping in as long as he wants to. Since he gets to hang out with his father Lenny, I foresee them taking a trip to the casino, eating and drinking at the best all you can eat buffet to their heart’s content without worry of being nagged by their wives. This dynamic duo can enjoy all the amusement or theme parks they desire, or go for scenic drives, or stop and smell the gardenias whenever they want. Their time will be filled with lots of good times, love, laughter and fun absolutely guaranteed. Jay would want all of his family and friends to celebrate his life and not mourn it. His mission here, has now been completed. He’s requested that everyone to raise their proverbial glass and toast “L’Chayim” (to life) in his honor.”

Jay leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife of 36-½ years, Donna Kaplan and son, Joseph Kaplan of Lawrenceville, GA; mother, Carole Kaplan of Vero Beach, FL; brother, Glenn Kaplan of Atlanta, GA; brother, Harry Kaplan of Vero Beach, FL; sister, Cindy Rotando of Long Beach, NY; mother-in-law, Carolyn Waters of Talmo, GA; sister-in-law, Rachel Bruce (Sammy Bruce) of Talmo, GA; and sister-in-law, Stacey F. Waters of Talmo, GA; uncle Martin Brown and his wife Barbara Brown of Palm City, FL; cousin Jay Powers and his wife Lillian Powers of Lido Beach, NY; cousin Kenny Powers, of Long Beach, NY; cousin Joni Powers, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and cousin Jarrod Brown, Palm City, FL.

His nieces and nephews include Ashely Kaplan-Robson and her husband Nic Robson of the UK; Adam Kaplan and his wife Catlin Kaplan of Aurora, CO; Josh Waters, his wife Marissa Waters, and daughter Mattie of Talmo, GA; Daniel Kaplan of Vero Beach, FL; Lindsey Beason, her husband Ty Beason, and daughter Lacey of Talmo, GA; Sam Kaplan of Bay Shores, NY; Amelia Phifer her husband Aaron Phifer, daughter Adriana, and son Caden of Suffolk, VA; Samantha Bruce of Talmo, GA; Chelsea Rotando of Long Beach, NY; Jennifer Rotando of Long Beach, NY; Cole Bruce of Talmo, GA; and Perrin Rotando of Long Beach, NY.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lenny Kaplan, in 2014; his Aunt Ellen, his cousin Mark Powers, and his grandparents, Bennie and Rose Brown.

Jay was born in Long Beach, New York in 1959 to parents Carole Brown and Lenny Kaplan. His childhood was full of fun and laughter with his two older brothers Glenn and Harry and younger sister Cindy. In 1983, Jay met Donna and their love story grew as they wed in 1986 and settled in Lawrenceville, GA. As a husband and father, Jay enjoyed his years camping, fishing, flying kites, and much, much more with his family. Jay will live on in the hearts and souls of his family.

In lieu of flowers, you may send/bring Jay’s favorite plant, a gardenia bush to be planted in his memory at his house.
