John Edward (Jack) Garrett, 85, of Buford, GA passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 after a long illness. Jack was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 24, 1930 to John Cleo and Mary Bazemore Garrett. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Jack married the only girl he ever loved, Bobbie LaVerne Costley, on March 16, 1957 in Atlanta, GA. He had the honor of becoming an immediate father to his sister-in-law, LuAnne, when he and LaVerne married, and they later had their second daughter, Amy, in 1961. Jack retired from AT&T after 32 years of service to the company where he and LaVerne met. Jack loved traveling, especially to Western Europe, painting, photography, and he was an avid golfer. Jack is survived by his wife, LaVerne; brother, Ronnie Garrett; daughters and sons-in-law, LuAnne and Randy Duncan, Amy & Mike Hutchins; grandchildren, Mandy Slayton, Wes and Kelly Cooper, Garrett and Emily Hutchins; and four great-grandchildren, Peyton, Avery, Ella, and Annie. Jack lived a Godly life and will be lovingly remembered as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 18, 2016 at McKendree United Methodist Church with Rev. Julie Boone officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation, in memory of Jack, to Friends of Refugees (www.friendsofrefugees.com) or the National Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, 770-277-4550.   11. I’m so sorry I won’t be able to be there with you all tomorrow to celebrate your dad’s life and to support you and your family as he is laid to rest.
