“John a man’s man at a very young age, he and his saintly widowed mother took me into their home so I could finish out part of my senior year… a responsible young man even then, and everyone recognized it. I will never cease being grateful to you both for helping me in that way, to finish out the half-year at Stone Mountain H. S. so I could graduate on time. ‘A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature,’ quoted by Ralph Waldo Emerson.”
– Emil T (Tony) Miller

John and Arlene moved from Stone Mountain to Lake Oconee in July of 1993 where grandchildren spent many fun memorable days on the lake. A telephone man, husband, Dad, Papa, he was the very best! John never met a stranger, never passed up an opportunity to make someone laugh and was the kindest sweetest Papa and ‘loved the most’ by all his family.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to First Baptist Church of Stone Mountain, P.O. BOX 806, Stone Mountain, GA 30086

Guestbook

  1. Dear family! We think of you often, especially when we are at the lake. We will be forever grateful for John and Arlene’s friendship and time we spent talking at the lake house. John greeted us the first time we looked at the next door cabin, and helped us with advice on so many projects. We are so thankful our lives crossed paths. What a legacy John leaves behind on this earth. He was so very proud of his family, his lovely wife, sons, grandchildren, and daughters in laws! May the Lord give you all comfort, peace, and strength in the days ahead! In Christ Love, The Miller Family: JR, Linda, Matthew, Sarah, Mary , & Andrew

  2. CandleImageDear Denny and family,

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of John. Our parents thought the world of both of your
parents and enjoyed many happy times together! Our Dad was blessed to work with him for so many years at Southern Bell. Please give your Mother a big us from us and tell her we are thinking of her and keeping all of you in our prayers.
Love, The Hugh Stephens family, Joan, Mike, Melanie, Miranda and Marty

  3. Arlene and Family, my thoughts and prayers are with each of you. I remember John and Arlene when I was just a teen. John was a gentle giant to me at that time. Their love endured all these years and will go on into Eternity. God Bless.
    Sandra Tanner (Arlene’s 1st cousin)
