Judah Elisha Tater, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend, passed away peacefully on April 22nd, at the young age of 11, surrounded by his loving family. Judah showed remarkable strength and courage throughout his battle with a rare childhood disease called x-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD).
Judah was born on May 5, 2012 in Lake Success, New York, to Lemuel and Delicia Tater. Judah moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia in 2015. He received his education at Gwin Oaks Elementary, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where he was in the gifted program. Prior to his move to Georgia, Judah was a member of Mount Sinai Seventh-day Adventist Church in Queens, New York.
Judah was a bright, funny, and kind-hearted young boy whose infectious laughter filled every room he entered. His love for his dog, Rocky, and his rabbit, Pepper, was unmatched.
His passion for basketball knew no bounds, as he dedicated endless hours perfecting his skills on the court. Dreaming of a future as a lawyer and eventually a judge, Judah’s determination and ambition shined brightly in everything he did.
Above all, Judah’s family held a special place in his heart. His mother, a beacon of love and strength, supported him through every trial. His father, a hero in his eyes, embodied courage and wisdom that Judah aspired to emulate. In his big brothers, Caleb and Zion, Judah found role models, mentors, and friends all rolled into one. In his big sister Caylah, he found a dance partner and a love for mischief. The bonds of love and respect within his family formed the foundation of Judah’s character, shaping him into the remarkable young man that we know. Their unwavering presence and guidance provided him with the strength and inspiration to face life’s challenges with grace and determination.
Judah’s presence was a beacon of light in the lives of those around him, leaving an inerasable mark on their hearts. His spirit and unwavering love will live on forever, serving as a testament to the incredible young man he was.
Judah is survived by his loving parents, Lemuel and Delicia Tater, his sister Caylah, his brothers Caleb and Zion, his maternal grandmother Delphina Harvey, his paternal grandmother Norah Tater, his paternal grandfather Morris Tater, his aunts, uncles, and godparents Andrea D. Hicks and Kenneth Richards. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Ivan Harvey and aunt Althea Taffe. He is also survived by numerous cousins and friends.
Judah’s legacy of bravery, perseverance, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Though his time on this earth was brief, Judah left an unwavering impact on the lives of those around him. May his memory be a blessing to all and may he rest in peace.
Today, on what would have been his 12th birthday, we celebrate Judah’s life and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
