Kenneth Charles Keys, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and man of God, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, at the age of 76, as a resident of Lawrenceville, GA. Born on February 9, 1948, in Detroit, MI, Ken lived a full life marked by faith, family, service, and an incredible sense of humor.
Ken graduated from Wessington Springs Academy and went to Central College, where he attended on a baseball scholarship. Before completing his college career, Ken joined the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country as a Lance Corporal (LCPL). A decorated veteran, Ken’s deep love for his country remained a defining part of his life.
Following his service, Ken embarked on a successful career as a Major Account Manager, excelling in his work while remaining deeply involved in his family’s lives. He was a dedicated and active father, coaching all three of his children in sports and serving as the president of the Touchdown Club at Lakeside High School for three years.
Ken was known for his Godly character, inventive mind, and social nature. He was a faithful Elder at Crossroads of Dunwoody, a deacon at Rehobeth Baptist Church, and a deacon at North Peachtree Baptist Church. Ken loved teaching Sunday School, sharing his deep knowledge of scripture, and exemplifying Christ’s love in everything he did.
He brought joy and laughter wherever he went. Known for his quick wit and playful pranks, Ken never forgot a person he met and made everyone feel important, loved, and valued. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Whether coaching, watching sporting events, going to the movies, or simply enjoying time with friends and family, Ken’s presence was a blessing to all.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Iola and James Keys.
He is survived by his loving wife, Micki Keys; his son, Kenneth Charles Keys, Jr. (Laura); his daughters, Stephanie Hester (David) and Jessica Leal (Richard); his brother, David Keys (Denise); his sisters, Marilyn Sigala and Della Ashley (Wilford); and his cherished grandchildren, Wesley Rhodes, Caroline Keys, Hayley Keys, Hunter Leal, Gavin Leal, and Austin Leal.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Wages and Sons Gwinnett Chapel from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:30 PM. Interment will take place at Georgia National Cemetery on January 28, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, honoring Ken’s commitment to service and his love for his fellow man.
Ken’s legacy of faith, family, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His warmth, humor, and devotion will never be forgotten.

My sincere condolences to Micki and family. I have so many wonderful memories of Ken – from the days when he sang in the quartet with Ron, Julie and Jim, to more current times as well. I pray for comfort for you all and that your wonderful memories will bring you joy despite the sadness. Love, Mary
Ken was a great friend of ours in HS. At the last reunion he & my husband Paul spent much time together talking about God & church. He was a true spiritual leader at our Christian school–pres. of the sr class. My mom was hospitalized with complications from surgery 3 months that year & there was no $$ for the sr. trip. Somehow he made arrangements for me to go anyway. He wanted to be sure all were included even then. I’m sure he continued in that way of life. God bless his family. You are in my prayers.
Our sympathy to your whole family. Unfortunately, it has been many years since I have seen Kenneth and the family. I do remember the first time I saw him when he must have been about 8 years old and I was about 12. He was introduced to the family that day. Fond memories.
May God bless you all with his peace.
