Laura Mary Peterson, 44, of Atlanta, Georgia died on December 12, 2016. She was born as a gift on her parents’ wedding anniversary, the fourth of four children, and lived her entire life as a gift to her family, friends and students. In 1993 Laura graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, in 1995 a Master of Education in Educational Psychology and in 1996 a Specialist in Education. She went on to pursue an additional graduate degree at Georgia State University graduating in 2002 with a Master of Science in Management. Laura dedicated the last 20 years to the students she served as a School Psychologist. She also volunteered her time selflessly to the East Atlanta Community Association and Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. Laura is preceded in death by her parents Rodney Gene and Anne Theresa Peterson. She is survived by siblings John Peterson, Stone Mountain; Anne Marie Peterson and nephew Griffin Totty, Avondale Estates; Rob Peterson (Mary Tolley-Peterson), nephew John Thomas and niece Lucia, Canton. Laura’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, December 17th at Wages and Sons in Stone Mountain. The family will receive friends at 2pm and the service in the chapel will begin at 3pm.
