Marcus Gale Ponder, Sr was born Marcus Gale Gibson on October 27, 1958, in Painesville, Ohio to the late Rev. Walter Lee Gibson and Gayle Weltha Lily. He was the second of five children. In his early years he attended the Mespo Local Public Schools in North Bloomfield, Ohio. After moving to Monticello, Georgia with his family, Marcus Sr attended Jasper County High School where he graduated in 1976. In addition to furthering his education, Marcus Sr attended Mercer University where he was on the Dean’s list. At the early age of 16 years old, Marcus Sr gained a passion for plumbing after completing an apprenticeship from an elderly man in Monticello, Georgia. This birth his business Master Drain Cleaning & Services which later changed to M3 Drain Cleaning to reflect his three children. His profession spanned over 20 years.

Marcus Sr met Francenia Denise Fluker in May 1979 and they were united in marriage on October 25, 1984. From their union were born three beautiful children: Marcia La’nae, Shirbrea Gayle and Marcus Gale, Jr. To continue his legacy, he leaves a loving and devoted wife, Francenia Denise Ponder, two daughters, Marcia La’nae (Courtney) Faulk, Shirbrea Gayle Ponder, his only son and namesake, Marcus Gale Ponder Jr, and three amazing grandchildren, Emani Satiya, Azaria Matiya and Cashmir Messiah. He leaves to cherish his memories, a mother, Gayle Ponder, three brothers, Walter “Tony” Ponder, Julius (Josey) Ponder, Joseph Ponder and a sister, Tamara (Boris) Burton, and a devoted brother-in-law, Kenth Fluker. A host of other relatives and friends.

Marcus, Sr was called “OG”, “The Plumber” and “Marco” by some, but to us he was affectionately called “Honey” (Wife), “Daddy” (Marcia), “Fav” or “Favorite” (Shirbrea), “Pops” (Marcus, Jr) and “Poppa” (Grandchildren).
