Margaret “Maggi” Ewing departed this life on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the age of 93. She was a beloved, friend, teacher, artist, aunt, great aunt, neighbor, and minister. She was enjoying her active life at Wesley Woods Towers.

Born July 15, 1930, Maggi was first a beloved Kindergarten teacher for 30 years in inner city Atlanta, then for the past 30 years a faithful parishioner and active volunteer of The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Atlanta. Over the years, she sang in the choir, hosted their Nativities Exhibit and receptions for many years. She was still serving at the healing station on Sundays and an active member of The Episcopal Church Women. She also was active in ministry with the Society of St. Anna the Prophet. Maggi was most recently serving as the Vicar of the St. Anna congregation at Wesley Woods Towers, and she was the Society’s “feet on the ground” in ministry with and to her fellow residents.

Maggi was known for her ministry of hospitality; Her artistic abilities were always visible with her paintings as well as with flowers, food, and even her wardrobe. She had fully embraced her aging and was an inspiration to all who knew her. We all love and miss Maggi!

She is survived by her nieces Carol Lowe Raymer, Lisa Worthington, nephew John Lowe, grandnephew Andrew Lowe, grandnieces Carolyn Joy Raymer, and Lillian Lowe.

The memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 2089 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta GA, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Society of St. Anna the Prophet (SSAP). Mailing address is 1655 Rainier Falls Drive, Atlanta, GA 30329 and website www.annasisters.org.

Guestbook

  1. CandleImageAnna Maggie is a treasure in life and in death. She lived her life fully and generously. Her light brightened every room and gathering she entered. She spoke with wisdom and thoughtfulness. She brought her many talents of creativity, playfulness, honesty, thoughtfulness and an active listening ear and heart. I love and miss you, Maggie.

  2. Maggie’s presence and determination to grow and participate not only in living but also in giving brought smiles wherever she went. In our parish, Church of the Epiphany, she continued to serve as a healer at the Healing Station during our main services, but more than that she healed by her smile, her loving hug. I always felt “seen” by Maggie – a kind of wide-armed perspective of welcome and delight. That presence, that joy which fosters growth, as she lived, will continue to inspire me….as will her faith.

  3. CandleImageI first met Maggi years ago singing soprano with the Choral Guild of Atlanta.¹
Later, when we came to the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, she made us feel we were in the right place, and we sang together again in the choir.
I saw another side of Maggi when her marvelous paintings were displayed in the hall art gallery.
Maggi was a truly beautiful person.

  4. Beautiful tribute, Carol. I’m sorry for your loss. Your Aunt Maggi sounds like a woman with many talents who was loved by many.❤️

  5. CandleImageI first met sweet Maggi 11 years ago at Church of the Epiphany while showing my paintings there. Her niece, Carol, subsequently gifted her 5 art classes with me, which began our mutual admiration relationship. I’m grateful to have had the privilege to paint with Maggi and get to know her loving and generous spirit. I will miss her very much. and will always be inspired by her memory.

  6. Maggi was my first cousin once removed. I recall her as a talented actress who performed in many plays in Atlanta. She taught me great deal about my family tree that I never knew. I will miss her.
