Lawrenceville, GA – MARGARET STEPHEN THUBLIN (née Margaret MacLeod Stephen), aged 91, died February 5, 2023 after battling Alzheimer’s disease and a recent stroke. Mrs. Thublin had lived in the Atlanta, Athens, and Middle Georgia areas since 1981. A native of Aberdeen, Scotland, she was the only child of Williamson John Taylor Stephen and Margaret MacLeod Stephen. Her husband, Ernest Owen Thublin, Jr., and an infant daughter, Maria Thublin, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Thublin is survived by her children, Angela Thublin Pryor of Winter Garden, FL, Catherine Thublin Cathcart and David Cathcart of St. Augustine, FL, Stephen Joseph Thublin and Donna Thublin of Bonaire, GA and Paul Williamson Thublin and Terry Thublin of Lawrenceville, GA. She also had 13 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Born into a seafaring family, Mrs. Thublin first worked as a secretary for Hall, Russell, and Co. Shipbuilders and Halifax Building Society in Aberdeen. After immigrating to Mobile, AL in 1955, she also worked for the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio Railroad and then later at Georgia-Pacific in Atlanta, GA. But her greatest pride and favorite occupation was being a wife and life partner for 52 years, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family, and a friend to many. Throughout her life, she was quite active in her churches and communities, teaching Sunday School classes, singing in the choir, and leading a Girl Guides troop in Aberdeen. She continued that work as a Girl Scout Troop Leader in Mobile, and helped launch the International Women’s Club and served as President of the Women’s Guild at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Crossett, AR. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing bridge, sewing, painting and creating art. At all times, she was ready to welcome newcomers and help those in need, with a kind word, a hot meal, and a warm heart.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warner Robins, GA. A reception will follow in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Mrs. Thublin’s name.
