Obituary for Marie Johnson
Marie Johnson, born August 20, 1941, to John Tyler and Mary Curtis (whom preceded her in death) in Howard County, Maryland, peacefully passed away on November 24, 2024, at her home in Stone Mountain, Georgia, surrounded by her loving granddaughter and full-time caregiver. She was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend.
Marie was preceded in death by her two sons, Ivan Johnson and James Davis, as well as her two brothers, John Curtis and Thomas Curtis, and her two sisters, Agnes Gross and Mary Francis Williams.
She leaves behind her loving daughter, DuBois Simms; grandsons, Terry Johnson, D’Andre Davis, and Dante Davis; her granddaughter, Maurissa Simms; and great-grandsons Kenneth Johnson II and Carson Davis, along with great-granddaughters Arriah Davis and Gia Davis.
Marie retired from the Maryland Cup and raised her family in Baltimore, Maryland. She was a god-fearing woman who loved fashion, traveling, cooking, baking, and gathering with family and friends. She enjoyed playing pinochle, reading, and staying informed about politics. A dedicated member of the Elk Lodge, she took great pride in her involvement and the friendships she forged there.
Known for her fiery personality, supportive nature, and outspoken ways, Marie touched many lives, helping individuals on their journeys to sobriety. She opened her doors to those in need, providing a haven, a warm meal, and uplifting company.
Marie will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, warm heart, and the love she shared with those around her. Her family and friends will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Wages and Sons Funeral Home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
