Martha Anne Fritz Schneider died on Sunday, Mother’s Day, May 8th 2016 at the age of 86 years at Park Springs Cobblestone Nursing Home, Stone Mountain, Georgia. She was born in Richmond Virginia on December 25, 1929, the daughter of the late Dr. Olin G. and Ruth (Zimmerman) Fritz. Martha grew up and went to grammar school in Walkertown, North Carolina. She graduated from high school in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1947. Martha earned a B.A. degree (Phi Beta Kappa) from Duke University in 1952, and a M.A. degree from Northwestern University-Garrett Seminary in 1954. She taught and conducted religious activities at Gobin Methodist Church in Greencastle, Indiana for ten years and then at Edinboro United Methodist Church in Edinboro, Pennsylvania for thirty-four years, and finally, Mountain Park United Methodist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia for eight years before succumbing to Alzheimer’s Dementia. Martha organized and coordinated Memorial Day vesper services, Easter Sunday services, Lenten Lunches, and community ecumenical services for 19 years. She was recognized for these efforts by receiving a Community Service Award. Martha was well loved by all who associated with her. Letters are still being sent to her years after she moved to Stone Mountain (to be near her four grandchildren) acknowledging these activities and these loving relationships. Martha was preceded in death by her son-in-law Djohn Surya, her sister Sara Lewis, brother-in-law James Lewis and nephew Michael Lewis. Survivors include her loving husband of sixty -two years, Michael, daughter Dawn Surya of Huntington, West Virginia, son Michael and daughter-in-law Cheri and four grandchildren: Charis, Jonathan, Christopher and Constance, all of Stone Mountain, Georgia.
