Resided in: Suwanee, Georgia

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Martha Russell Reed on August 19, 2024, in Suwanee, Georgia. Born on February 17, 1943, in Pensacola, Florida, Martha lived a life full of love, adventure, and dedication to her family.

Martha graduated from Lake Providence High School and pursued her education at Louisiana State University. An avid seamstress in her early years, she was an administrative assistant in multiple industries, she later transitioned to bookkeeping, working alongside her daughter Kathy and son-in-law Rob at CSP Upfitters, despite often joking that she hated numbers.

Martha was a devoted wife to her husband, Gene, who accompanied him across the Southeast as he managed numerous projects in the pulp and paper industry. Their journey together involved moving 14 times in their first 13 years of marriage, yet Martha always dreamed of big city life and made sure they eventually settled back in Atlanta after every early assignment.

Known for her love of shopping, Martha had a keen eye for colorful patterns and stylish accessories. She cherished the time spent with the Reed family during their large gatherings and always brought warmth and joy to those occasions. Later in life, Martha and Gene found joy and camaraderie in the competitive world of NASCAR, becoming avid fans and frequent attendees at races, particularly at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Martha is preceded in death by her father, Sonny; her mother, Kay; and her brother, Lynn (Jan). She is survived by her loving husband, Gene; her son, Robert Reed (Marci); her daughter, Kathryn Riley (Rob); and her beloved grandchildren, Joshua and Reed.

The family would like to thank LaJuana Ware, the MeSun hospice care team and Terra Bella Suwanee for the comforting care they provided. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Wages & Sons Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Atlanta Humane Society are encouraged in Martha’s memory. https://atlantahumane.org/
