Mary Godard (Meg) Anderson of Kennesaw/Atlanta died on Wednesday, March 26th, 2014, after a brief illness. She was 81.“Mary Grace” Godard was the oldest of three siblings born to Dr. James McFate Godard and Aura Chaffin Godard. She grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, earned her Bachelor of Arts diploma (Phi Beta Kappa) from Duke University in 1954 and a Master of Arts diploma from Georgia State University in 1969. Meg taught freshman English part-time at Georgia State University for many years, but her primary vocation was teaching music at St. Anne’s Episcopal Day School in Atlanta, where she served for 38 years before retiring in 2006 at age 74.Meg was preceded in death by her parents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves behind her brother Jerry Godard of Fairview, North Carolina, her sister Mrs. H. Franklin (Betsy) Bunn of Auburndale, Massachusetts, sons Kemper and Jimmy Anderson of Atlanta, Greg Sawyer of Springfield, Virginia and a number of beloved grand and great-grand children. Meg also cherished a large “extended family” made up of in-laws, friends, co-workers and former students. She loved and was beloved by many. Meg’s funeral will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at three o’clock in the afternoon at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, at 1790 Lavista Road Northeast in Atlanta. A reception celebrating her life will follow the service. In lieu of flowers,donations may be made to St. Bartholomew’s or to St. Anne’s Episcopal Day School.
