Mary Ruth Whitmire, 100, of Monroe, GA, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024. Born on July 25, 1924, Ruth lived a remarkable life filled with strength, independence, and a deep love for family. Known to those closest to her as “Mama” and “Sis,” Ruth was a kind and hardworking woman who dedicated her career to Sears Roebuck, Inc., working at the Distribution Center where she retired after many years of service.
Ruth led a simple and frugal life, finding joy in the little things, from reading her favorite books to spending cherished moments with her family. One of the greatest joys of her life was her beloved kittens, Star and Tina, who brought her much comfort and happiness.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Wilcox Whitmire and James Aaron Whitmire. She is survived by her son, Joe G. Diaz (Barbara); daughters, Glenda Kaye Deignan (Robert) and Linda Faye Lee; granddaughter, Amber Renee Diaz Riley (John Matthew); great-granddaughter, Lillian McKenzie Riley; great-grandson, William “Liam” Reid Riley; as well as numerous other family members who will miss her dearly.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00PM on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Wages & Sons, Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Highway Lawrenceville, GA 30046. Agraveside service to celebrate Ruth’s life will take place at 12:00 PM on January 7, 2025, at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park, 724 Hogan Road, Rossville, GA 30741.
Ruth’s legacy of love, strength, and simplicity will continue to inspire all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
