Melissa Shanabrook Denney, lovingly known as “Missy” to her friends in Ohio and “Mimi” to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, in Grayson, GA, at the age of 71. Born on November 5, 1952, in Cincinnati, OH, Melissa lived a life filled with love, kindness, and dedication to her family and passions.
Melissa attended “The” Ohio State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Environmental Science with a minor in Horticulture. Her love for nature and the environment was evident in her beautiful gardens and her talent for creating stunning floral and wreath arrangements. A gifted seamstress, she also found joy in sewing and crafting, always creating something beautiful to share with those she loved.
Throughout her career as a Claims Representative, Melissa was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and genuine care for others. However, it was her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend where her true heart shone. Melissa made everyone in her family feel deeply loved and cherished. She was the embodiment of selflessness, always willing to do anything for her family without ever complaining. Her sweet, thoughtful, and caring nature left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Melissa’s family fondly remembers her as a woman who touched the lives of everyone around her with her gentle spirit and unwavering support. Her memory will be deeply missed, but her love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Julie Shanabrook, and her beloved grandson, Logan McCrary. Melissa is survived by those who loved her dearly and will continue to honor her memory.
A memorial service to celebrate Melissa’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Wages and Sons Gwinnett Chapel, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA, 30046, with visitation one hour prior.
Melissa Shanabrook Denney will always be remembered for her kindness, grace, and the love she freely gave to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
