Mercedes Valencia Uriz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mercedes Uriz, a beloved member of the Decatur, Georgia community, who departed this life on February 3, 2025. Born in Tampa, Florida, to Dr. Cipriano and Mrs. Esther Cueto of Rockville, Maryland, Mercedes embraced life with enthusiasm, leaving her mark in Savannah, Georgia, Phoenix, Arizona, Tampa, Florida, and finally Decatur, Georgia.

A devoted mother, Mercedes dedicated herself to nurturing her three children, ensuring they were enveloped in love and support throughout their lives. She shared over 50 wonderful years of marriage with her late husband, Jose V. Uriz, creating a legacy of love and companionship.

Mercedes is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Lenora Uriz. She is survived by her sons, Joe Uriz and Steve Uriz, along with her son-in-law Derek Spiller and daughter-in-law Jessica Uriz. A proud grandmother, she cherished her time with Hannah Reid. She is also remembered by her sister, Eva Cueto, and brother-in-law, Randy Gobleck.

Known for her warm spirit and ability to connect with others, Mercedes found joy in her conversations with friends. Her love for roses and azaleas reflected her vibrant personality, bringing beauty into her life and the lives of those around her.

A private family service will take place at Wages & Sons, followed by a graveside service at Gwinnett Memorial Park in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Jose.
