Millie Ann Thomason
October 16, 1933 - September 19, 2015
Millie Ann Thomason went home to be with her Lord on Saturday September 19, 2015. She was
born on October 16,1933 in Stone Mountain, Georgia where she graduated from high school
and resided most of her life.
Millie worked as a bookkeeper for the DeKalb County school system for over 30 years until she
celebrated her retirement in 2005. She loved her work and cared greatly for her coworkers and
the many students she interacted with on a daily basis. She enjoyed decorating her office with
plants, flowers, trinkets, and photos of her grandchildren.
She enjoyed watching old movies, the shopping channel, and especially the food network, even
when she was unable to eat during her recent illness. She loved to get her hair done weekly at
the “beauty shop” and took great pride in her long fingernails which she kept meticulously
manicured.
Millie was a faithful member of a local Baptist church for most of her life. She enjoyed singing in
the choir and attending other church activities. She demonstrated her faith in God throughout
her life, trusting God with many difficult situations including her open heart surgery in 2000 and
the need to go on long term life support beginning in May of 2014.
Millie was a generous and thoughtful person who was constantly attentive to the needs of
others. She loved giving gifts, especially at Christmas. She also enjoyed making beautiful floral
holiday arrangements and wreathes.
She loved her two sons dearly, but her pride and joy were her 6 grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren. She had an excellent memory and enjoyed reminiscing and keeping up with the
latest news about each of them. She spent her final days at Traditions Health and Rehabilitation
in Lithonia, Georgia where she was surrounded with photos of her loved ones.
Millie is preceded in death by her father Horace E. Lunsford, her mother Frances E. Moore and
her brother Eddie Lunsford. She is survived by her two sons and their spouses: Scott A &
Pamela Thomason of Huntsville, Alabama; and, Jeff E & Linda Thomason of Hoschton, Georgia.
She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren: Nathan Thomason of Oakland, California, Elizabeth
Wightman of Carnforth England, Joshua Thomason, Jonathan Thomason, Jacob Thomason,
and Jared Thomason (all of Snellville, Georgia). Her great grandchildren are Elijah James
Wightman and Scarlett Ruth Wightman of Carnforth England and Chloe, Conner, and Evan
Thomason (all of Snellville, Georgia).
