Roy W. Mitchell, Jr., 78 of Chamblee, Georgia passed away July 19, 2010. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of 56 years Marilyn Phillips Mitchell, son Bruce Mitchell partner Jim McConnell, son Keith Mitchell and wife Gina, grandson Josh Mitchell and wife Meg, grandson Miles Mitchell, brothers and sisters Lee Corbin and Joann Mitchell, Charles and Nell Mitchell, Marlene and Charles Harris, Judy Dawson, Elsie and Bobby Mills, and Johnny Flowers. He was preceded in death by parents Roy W. Mitchell, Sr., Elsie Lynch Mitchell and brother Howard Mitchell. He is also survived by members of his wife's family Ottis and Jane Phillips, Shelby Shubert, Collis Phillips and Marlon Phillips. He is survived by numerous others family and neighborhood friends. He was an excellent basketball player for Stone Mountain High School averaging 30 points a game. He served in the Air Force from 1950-1953. Our beloved Dad was a teacher, mentor and great communicator to family and neighborhood friends. He loved to talk, sing, and listen to music. He was nicknamed "Buzz" or "Rattling Roy" by those he knew him. He was always friendly and welcoming to new people. He had a great singing voice and loved his music especially the standards. He retired from the DeKalb County Fire Department after serving the community for 25 years. A celebration of life is being planned for the future.
