Norma Casserly Lane was born July 8, 1939, in Jamaica, West Indies, and lived there until earning a scholarship to St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as a registered nurse for 30 years, first at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in downtown Atlanta and later at West Paces Ferry Hospital.
In addition to nursing, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Georgia State University. She followed her passion in metalsmithing and operated her own jewelry business for 30+ years. She was an extremely talented lady in the Arts and enjoyed painting, sculpting, gardening, and puzzles.
Norma was an exemplary mother and remarkable human being, compassionate, always helping others, and loved spending time with family and friends. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity seen in her care for her husband, children, grandchildren, entire family, and countless others.
Norma was a devout Catholic and actively participated in her church over the years. Her strong Christian faith and spirituality guided her every day and was an essential part of her life. She believed in giving back to the community. She taught Sunday school early on and served the St. Vincent de Paul Society as a volunteer for 15+ years and as a volunteer at Saint Joseph’s Hospital for 20 years.
She died peacefully on February 6, 2024, at age 84, in Dunwoody, GA, surrounded by her loving family. Norma was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Jack Lane. She is survived by her three children: son, James; daughter, Fran (Jim) with their two children, Harry and Maddie; daughter, Mary (Jeff), and their three children, Cooper, Billy, and Blake.
A Funeral Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church located at 2443 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 2:00 pm, immediately followed by a reception. Norma will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, with her deceased husband at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Norma’s name directly to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, an organization she felt strongly about.
