STERNER Owen Knox Sterner, “OK”, Stone Mountain, GA entered into rest on June 22, 2017. Mr. Sterner was born on August 7, 1930 in Elizabeth Township, PA. He was the 3rd child of Thomas Sterner and Alma Sterner. The family later settled in Sarasota, FL where he graduated from Sarasota High. While there he ran cross country where he lettered in Track. He served in the United States Army for 2 years and then graduated from Alabama State University with a teaching degree. He taught at Lithonia High School, DeKalb Technical College then became counselor at Newton Co. High School. He loved God, his family and barbershop music. He was also an avid woodworker. He served in various leadership positions at Indian Creek Bap. and Pine Lake Bap. Church. He was a man of kindness and love for others always seeking how he could help others. He was married to Mary Jo Sterner for 48 years until her passing in 2004. He was blessed with 1 daughter, Laura E. Sterner Morris. He has 2 grandchildren, Michael Morris (Katie), Christopher Morris (Ashley); 4 great grandchildren, Amelia, Abel, Ryan and Kylie Morris. He is also survived by a niece and 2 nephews, Robert Van Nest, Diana Trieber and Gordan (Debbie) Sterner. Memorial Service will be held Tuesday June 27, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Wages & Sons Funeral Home 1040 Main St. Stone Mountain, GA with a fellowship following at Pine Lake Baptist Church 4528 Rockbridge Road Stone Mountain, GA 30083. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II, Memorial Fund in honor of Owen K. Sterner. They aid and assist our wounded warriors, supports and improves the morale and welfare of military servicemen/women serving overseas. The Memorial Fund also sponsors the K9 Sgt.   5. Geeral Owen Sterner was a beloved member of the Southern Harmony Brigade, iffering his master woodworking skills for many years in the ma king of awards for the Brigade’s annual rallies. His skillfully crafted plaques are among my most prized keepsakes. His kindness and gentleness will be greatly missed. Sing on, General!

  7. Dear Family, My thoughts are with you at this time. Mr. Sterner taught at Lithonia High School while I was a student there. I remember his passion for teaching. His work has left a lasting impression on my life and I was honored to know him. He will be missed.

  12. I remember the Sterners well from growing up at Pine Lake. Owen was a nice man with a lovely singing voice.
