John Wesley Owens of Stone Mountain Ga. passed away on September 10, 2013 at the age of 76. He was born in Stone Mountain, Ga. in 1937 to Sarah and Claude Owens who preceded him in death. After the death of his mother, he lived with Ruth and Gordon Martin, his aunt and uncle. He shared his life with his wife of fifty-five years, Joyce Luther Owens. She was the most precious person in his life and he was the most precious person in her life. John Wesley was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Joyce and John Wesley were blessed with four children: Michael Owens, Jeff Owens, Cathy and Ronnie Wallace and Jenni and Jeff Farmer. His sons-in-law, Jeff Farmer and Ronnie Wallace were very special to Joyce and Wesley. John Wesley and Joyce have ten grandchildren, Mike Nick; Jeff Ali and Sarah; Cathy Wesley and fiancé Lindsey, Joey, Taylor, Lily and Kevin; Jenni Dustin, Zeb and Stephanie. They have six great-grandchildren, Nick and Hannah Ava, Cason and Parker; Zeb and Stephanie Levi, Caleb and Zoe. John Wesley was also surrogate father and grandfather to Tony and Chad Pergantis, Julie Pergantis, Laurel Pickens Vasser and Gabriel Pergantis, after the death of their father and grandfather. One of the greatest joys of his life was to boil peanuts on the fire pit in the woods, sit around the fire, talk, laugh and just have a good time with all his family, including nieces, nephews and whoever else showed up. John Wesley went to work at Southern Bell upon graduating from Stone Mountain High School. He retired after 45 years. The memories of John Wesley Owens life will be cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a much loved and respected man. Guestbook

  1. May God’s comfort surround you during this time of grief. I know your father will be missed by many but especially to his sweet wife. May you all feel the prayers of many. Hugs!

  2. What a great man John was! He took me “under his wing” when I transferred to outside plant with Southern Bell so many years ago. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends. He will always be remembered.
