Gail Elizabeth Thaxton Perkins, 56, of Atlanta, GA, died on November 27, 2010, at N. Fulton Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on July 6, 1954 in Durham, NC to Benjamin Clyde Thaxton, Jr. and Vivian Vickers Thaxton. Gail graduated from Durham High School in 1973 and from business school in 1975. In 2008, she became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was employed with several different companies during her life, but the jobs she really loved were the ones where she was taking care of people in need. Gail loved people and animals of all kinds, especially cats. She also loved life, and her laughter, kindness and goodness will continue to enlighten all of us who loved her so much. Gail is survived by her daughter, Kelly Kathryn Perkins of Chattanooga, TN; her sisters, Vicki Thaxton and Linda Hodges and her husband, Bill; niece Julie Hodges McKinney and her husband, Mike; great niece Mattie McKinney; and nephew Will Hodges and his wife, Janie all of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her beloved cat and best buddy, Georgie, and many friends. A memorial service will be held at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel at 11:00 am on Sunday, December 5, 2010. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be sent to the ASPCA or Humane Society in honor of Gail's love for animals, or to the charity of one's choice. Flowers will also be accepted at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel, 1031 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, 770-277-4550..

  3. I was so sorry to hear the news about Gail. I always enjoyed seeing her when she visited the Hodges in Charlotte. She always had a smile on her face. Linda, Vicki and Gail’s whole family -you’re in my thoughts and prayers.

    My deepest sympathy to all of you. I was so sorry to hear of our loss as Gail was so sweet and always had a beautiful smile on her face. Everytime she saw me she gave me the biggest hug! and I will always remember the great laughter we shared. I would always look forward to seeing her when I knew she was in town. She was a wonderful person and we Rayford and Dayvawill all miss her dearly. I have a picture we both took at Will and Janie’s wedding that I will cherish forever. May GOD bless her sweet daughter Kelly, sisters Linda and Vicki in this time of sorrow.

I always looked forward to your visits because no matter what was going on, no matter what the circumstances, I could always count on laughing and being happy when you were around. I loved smiling and laughing with you. I always looked forward to you coming to visit at Christmas and over the summer. I love you.
