On September 11, 2023, Ralph Cornelius Maxwell passed away in his residence peacefully of natural causes.
Ralph Cornelius Maxwell was born in Asheville, NC on October 11, 1943. He was the third son of Jeffye and Norris Maxwell.
As a child he was rather quiet playing with neighborhood boys and teaching his sister to ride a bike and play horseshoes, which stopped abruptly after she almost hit a window.
As a preteen he had a paper route, and was the best paperboy the Detroit News ever had. During the holidays he was driven around his route because he received so many gifts he could not carry them all.
In his early 20’s he worked at Ford Motor Company and was the proud owner of a brand new 1964 Gold Bonneville convertible. A beautiful car that was well liked by him and others, as it was stolen on several occasions. His baby sister saw it parked at her high school, called Ralph. Ralph’s friend was a State Police Officer so he and Ralph came to the school to retrieve his car. The scene played out like one on TV, car pulled out, police car pulled in front, car recaptured.
In his 30’s Ralph was blessed with the birth of his one and only child, a daughter, Tamara (Tammy) Venable/Garnet, of whom he loved and adored. He spent weekends and summers with her teaching her math skills, reading, and exploring museums. He also shared his favorite pastime listening to jazz.
Ralph then did some traveling, he went to California for some years, and then back to Detroit, and finally ended up living in Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his mother Jeffye, father Norris, brother Norris Jr, and beloved cousin, Gladys Jones.
He leaves to mourn his daughter, Tamara (Tammy) Garnett, grandsons Timothy, Ryan and Kyle Garnett, brother Samuel Maxwell, two sisters Mildred Kelly, and Audrey Cleveland, beloved family Matriarch Aunt Earle Nixon, and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
At his request, no public services will be held. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date
My sincere condolences to Tammy & the rest of the family. ♥️
I want to light a candle for my brother, Ralph. May he forever rest in peace.
