After graduating HS he went on to begin studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Md. He was a member of the U.S. Army stationed in Frankfurt Germany, after his stay in the army he graduated from John’s Hopkins University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
Bob’s career encompassed decades with the telecommunications industry particularly involving fiber obtic cables and equipment, helping to modernize the way the world communicates with voice and data to this day.
Bob married his HS sweetheart, Joan, in 1966. Together they took pride in their 3 children, Laura, Richard, and Paul.
Bob will forever be remembered for his warm heart and mild nature, they were tokens of his character. He never hesitated welcoming people into his home and enjoyed telling everyone his favorite stories of his children and grandchildren. He loved tennis and making lifelong friends that shared his passion for life.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Frank and Helen, his beloved wife Joan of 52 years, and his daughter Laura. He is survived by his sons Richard (Christina) and Paul (Kelly), and his grandchildren, Morgan, Kevin, Brett, Ryan, Aidan, & Bryce.
A Celebration of Bob’s exceptional life will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association.
Dad, you will forever be loved and missed. My heart is a empty right now, but I will fill them with fond memories. You helped create so many.
So very sorry for your loss. Wishing peace and comfort for the family.
Miss you Grandpa
Mr. P will forever be missed many a fond memory hanging out at the Pietruszka house while growing up. Mr. P. Always made us feel welcomed and after I turned 21 always great to sit down and have a beer or two with and watch the Braves game. He definitely helped to raise me and will forever be in my memories. I know he is up in Heaven now knocking that fuzzy ball around and enjoying time with Mrs. P.
Bob and I have been friends for about 60+/- years. Went to the U of Maryland back in the 1960’s, worked at Western Electric in Baltimore and Atlanta, had a couple beers together over the years. He, Joan and family played a hugh role in our relocation from Baltimore to Atlanta. They virtually adopted our son while we looked for a house and actually were with us when we found it. He helped us become members at Summit Chase CC, where he tried to help me learn tennis … never did. Bobby and I had a nickname for each other. It was “Pudge” with a little finger poke in the tummy, like the Poppin Fresh Doughboy commercial. I’m going to miss you Pudge.
I could have not asked for a better father in law. I will miss you and remember all of our great memories
Sorry for your loss and thoughts and prayers are with you all. So glad my path crossed with Bob and Joan. I was blessed by knowing them and will see again someday. 🙏
