Roger Carlton Hendry, 75, of Lawrenceville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, after a 3 ½ year valiant battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He was born on February 25, 1947, in West Point, Georgia to the late Margie and Carlton O’Neal Hendry.

Roger, after attending both Brown and Therrell high schools in Atlanta, went on to work in sales for the automotive refinishing industry for 30+ years. He also worked for the Gwinnett County Government prior to retirement. He was an active Freemason for over 36 years, a former member of many lodges, including Mountain Park, Gwinnett, Sweetwater, and the Dekalb commandery of the Knights Templar, and a current member of the Grayson Masonic Lodge. He was an avid motorcycle rider, a former member of the “Traveling Men” motorcycle club, and rode in many charity events throughout Georgia.

Roger was preceded in death by his loving parents, daughter Laura Hendry Livery (Michael), and wife of 34 years, Meredith Wheatley Hendry. He is survived by stepsons, David and John Galatas (Traci); two brothers, Ed Hendry (Dianne), Steve Hendry (Janet); sister, Karen Thompson (Bruce); two grandchildren, Jack and Sarah Galatas; many nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. There was nothing Roger wouldn’t do for his friends and family, he had never met a stranger, and loved his family and friends fiercely.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Wages and Son Funeral Home located at 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy; Lawrenceville, GA 30046. Visitation hours will be from 1pm – 3pm with a service to immediately follow.

He loved me and my husband and he let us know that every time we saw him or spoke with him. We will . Miss his sweet spirit but know there will be a day when we will see him again

  4. I knew Roger from the many get-togethers over the years. I was blessed to have him and Merry attend my going away party when I moved from Georgia to Florida. We tried to keep up with each other in the phone and I enjoyed talking about the old days. He was a nice person and will be missed.

  5. CandleImageRoger had been a precious friend of mine since 2012 when I first met him in person. Then I started going to Brown High Picnics. I loved Roger, he will forever live in my heart. He called me the last time October 8, 2022 I will always have his voicemail on my voicemail. Roger loved everybody, he was that kind of man. I know I’ll see him again someday. Roger knew the Father and let you know he did.
