Born in: Knoxville, TN
Resided in: Suwanee, GA

Sandra Herron Knap (Sandy), 59, Suwanee GA, died on February 9, 2016 at VITAS Hospice, Duluth GA after a year long battle with melanoma. Sandy was born on November 10, 1956 to Frank and Bettye Herron in Knoxville TN. She is survived by her husband of 37 years Mark Knap; children, Gregory Knap and Kimberly Knap of Atlanta; Sista, Vicki Callahan (Montee) of Maryville, TN; aunt, Clara Marcum of Knoxville, TN; and nieces and nephews; Michael Knap, Jennifer Knap, Jeff Williams, Lisa Brooks, and Ray Fleming. Sandy's life was spent serving students. Sandy was a special education teacher for 18 years in the DeKalb and Gwinnett county schools and for the last 15 years she served as the administrative assistant to the High School Pastor at 12Stone Church in Lawrenceville, GA. She loved to serve the Pastor and to create, organize, and support environments where students could grow into fully devoted followers of Christ. Her favorite days were when students entered into a saving relationship with Jesus. Sandy also carried a powerful gift of prayer, and loved to intercede for both students and anyone else who is far from God. She never missed an opportunity to pray for her friends and family. It was Sandy's love for her family and desire to spend more time with her children that fueled her desire to leave education and gave her the time she wanted to spend with them each day. Sandy loves God and enjoyed spending time in His creation and was re-created when she spent time in her garden, camping, hiking in the mountains, or simply relaxing at the beach. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation, in memory of Sandy, to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, 1365 Clifton Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30322.
