February 5, 1938 ~ January 16, 2015
Born in:
Nawanshahr, India
Resided in:
Atlanta, Georgia
Surinder passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 16th. He was loved and admired by all who knew him as a wise, generous, and gentle soul and an elegant, kind, and wonderfully curious man. He was an engineer with the spirit of a poet who loved building bridges, literally and metaphorically. He was much-loved by his wife Mridula, with whom he would have celebrated his 45th wedding anniversary this May, and adored by his two children, Saurabh and Shaifali, upon whom he showered his endless affection and support. Surinder will be missed beyond description, but his family finds solace in knowing his legacy will endure in the many warm stories so many have of him. In addition to his wife, Mridula, and his children, Saurabh and Shaifali, Surinder is survived by the members of Mahajan and Puri families, his devoted dog, Henna, who walked him faithfully and regularly, as well as a multitude of friends and colleagues. Services will be held on Sunday, January 18, at 3:00 pm, at Wages & Sons Funeral Home, 1040 Main St., Stone Mountain, GA 30083. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Surinder's name to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Development Office, 1762 Clifton Rd., Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA, 30322
I remember Surinder as a highly intelligent, and very helpful project manager, who always asked me “how are you doing,” and meant it.
He was a pleasure to work with, and I never heard him say a bad word about anyone.
He will be missed by all of us who worked on the great MARTA rapid transit project.
